Working with the team of iMedication Lab at Zhejiang University under the supervision of Prof. Zhen Gu has been one of the most incredible experiences I’ve ever had while abroad. The Zijingang Campus is beautiful, offering a huge variety of food, activities and architecture, while the laboratories at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences look as they’ve been taken straight out of a science fiction movie. Surely, what made my experience even more rewarding and unforgettable, was meeting a supportive and welcoming team of students and researchers that volunteered to ease and improve my academic and personal experience in such a different and fresh environment. Although my time here was relatively short, I will always cherish the invaluable memories and lessons I experienced in China.

                    ——Ricardo Gonzalez Hidalgo(鲁汶大学)

The Zijingang campus of ZJU is breathtaking. Facilities are well maintained and clean, and canteens are always serving delicious, healthy foods from local Jiangnan to global cuisines. At Grips, we worked closely with mentors at a Master or PhD level as well as principal investigators at a lab. We had ample opportunities to explore cities, charming old towns and various gardens in the beautiful Jiangnan thanks to the location of ZJU. Overall, the Grips program held at Zhejiang University was a fantastic opportunity that has led to unforgettable moments with international friends and much learning in a world-class institution.

                     ——Justin Ou (悉尼大学)

It was an incredibly meaningful time here, consisting of much more than I had anticipated. The event provided me a professional platform where I could experience hands on research and gave me deeper understanding into what it is like to pursue further education. It was one where I not only learnt but was also able to make friends and connections with others from universities across the globe. I am sure many would agree with me in saying that this has been an eventful six weeks that was well enjoyed.

                    ——Annika Shitian Tang (牛津大学)

Working on this project has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my academic life. My task was to figure out how to train a video analysis model that could automatically detect epileptic seizures in mice. The project turned out to be way more challenging than I ever expected—we had to deal with massive amounts of video data and bring AI techniques into the complex world of brain science. Every step, from data preprocessing and feature extraction to model design and endless fine-tuning, came with its own set of hurdles. So when I finally got a working model up and running, the sense of accomplishment was truly indescribable. This experience has sharpened my coding and algorithmic skills, but more importantly, it opened my eyes to the beauty of interdisciplinary research—learning to bridge computer vision and machine learning with real-world problems in neuroscience. It has truly broadened my academic horizons and solidified my determination to pursue further studies in biomedical fields.

                   ——Duy Pham(不列颠哥伦比亚大学)

Throughout the project and the program, I faced many challenges and learned lessons that reminded me once again of some truths about science and research. Perhaps the most important truth I was reminded of is that science is global and collaborative. It progresses through international exchange and benefits from bringing together different perspectives. I believe that some of my best learning moments happened in between, through conversations over meals at the canteen and walks around beautiful Zijingang campus, surrounded by both local ZJU and international students. Grips gave me not only a research experience, but a community of future scientists I can genuinely call my friends. I’m very grateful to have had the chance to be part of Grips, and especially thankful to my supervisor, the members of the lab, and all the friends who made my time at ZJU such a memorable one.

                     ——Aldiyar Sopybek(洪堡大学)
